The New Testament
(Matthew 1:19) Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
(Matthew 3:15) Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented.
(Matthew 5:6) Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
(Matthew 5:10) Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
(Matthew 5:20) For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
(Matthew 5:45) that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
(Matthew 6:1) "Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
(Matthew 6:33) But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
(Matthew 9:13) But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
(Matthew 10:41) Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and anyone who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward.
(Matthew 13:17) For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
(Matthew 13:43) Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
(Matthew 13:49) This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous
(Matthew 21:32) For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.
(Matthew 23:28-29) In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness. {29} "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous.
(Matthew 23:35) And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
(Matthew 25:37) "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
(Matthew 25:46) "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."
(Mark 2:17) On hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
(Mark 6:19-20) So Herodias nursed a grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she was not able to, {20} because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man. When Herod heard John, he was greatly puzzled ; yet he liked to listen to him.
(Luke 1:17) And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous--to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
(Luke
2:25) Now there was a man in
(Luke 5:32) I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
(Luke 14:14) and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."
(Luke 15:7) I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
(Luke 18:9) To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable:
(Luke 23:47) The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, "Surely this was a righteous man."
(John 16:8) When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:

(John 17:25) "Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me.
(Acts 3:14) You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.
(Acts 7:52) Was there ever a prophet your fathers did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him--
(Acts 10:22) The men replied, "We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to have you come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say."
(Acts 22:14) "Then he said: 'The God of our fathers has chosen you to know his will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from his mouth.
(Acts 24:14-15) However, I admit that I worship the God of our fathers as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that agrees with the Law and that is written in the Prophets, {15} and I have the same hope in God as these men, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.
(Acts 24:25) As Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, "That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you."
(Romans 1:17) For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."
(Romans 1:32) Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
(Romans 2:5) But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.
(Romans 2:13) For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.
(Romans 3:5) But if our unrighteousness brings out God's righteousness more clearly, what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.)
(Romans 3:10) As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;
(Romans 3:20-22) Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. {21} But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. {22} This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference,
(Romans 4:3) What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness."
(Romans 4:5-6) However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness. {6} David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
(Romans 4:9) Is this blessedness only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? We have been saying that Abraham's faith was credited to him as righteousness.
(Romans 4:11) And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So then, he is the father of all who believe but have not been circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them.
(Romans 4:13) It was not through law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.
(Romans 4:20-22) Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, {21} being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. {22} This is why "it was credited to him as righteousness."
(Romans 4:23-24) The words "it was credited to him" were written not for him alone, {24} but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness--for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.
(Romans 5:7) Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.
(Romans 5:17-19) For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. {18} Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. {19} For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
(Romans 5:20-21) The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, {21} so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
(Romans 6:13) Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness.
(Romans 6:16) Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?
(Romans 6:18-20) You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. {19} I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. {20} When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness.
(Romans 7:12) So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.
(Romans 8:3-4) For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, {4} in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.
(Romans 8:10) But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.
(Romans
9:30-31) What then shall we say? That
the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a
righteousness that is by faith; {31} but
(Romans 10:3-6) Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. {4} Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. {5} Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." {6} But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?' " (that is, to bring Christ down)
(Romans
14:17) For the
(1 Corinthians 1:30) It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.
(2 Corinthians 3:9) If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!
(2 Corinthians 5:21) God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
(2 Corinthians 6:7) in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left;
(2 Corinthians 6:14) Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
(2 Corinthians 9:9-10) As it is written: "He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever." {10} Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.
(2 Corinthians 11:15) It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.
(Galatians 2:21) I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"
(Galatians 3:6) Consider Abraham: "He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness."
(Galatians 3:11) Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, "The righteous will live by faith."
(Galatians 3:21) Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law.
(Galatians 5:5) But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope.
(Ephesians 4:22-24) You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; {23} to be made new in the attitude of your minds; {24} and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
(Ephesians 5:9) (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
(Ephesians 6:14) Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,
(Philippians 1:9-11) And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, {10} so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, {11} filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ--to the glory and praise of God.
(Philippians 3:8-9) What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ {9} and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ--the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.
(1 Thessalonians 2:10) You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed.
(1 Timothy 1:9) We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,
(1 Timothy 6:11) But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
(2 Timothy 2:22) Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
(2 Timothy 3:16) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
(2 Timothy 4:8) Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
(Titus 3:5) he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
(Hebrews 1:8-9) But about the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom. {9} You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy."
(Hebrews 5:13) Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.
(Hebrews 10:38) But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him."
(Hebrews 11:4) By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead.
(Hebrews 11:7) By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
(Hebrews 12:11) No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
(Hebrews
12:22-24) But you have come to
(James 1:20) for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
(James 2:21) Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?
(James 2:23) And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend.
(James 2:25) In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?
(James 3:18) Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.
(James 5:16) Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
(1 Peter 2:24) He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
(1 Peter 3:12) For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."
(1 Peter 3:18) For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,
(1 Peter 4:18) And, "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?"
(2 Peter 1:1) Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
(2 Peter 2:21) It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them.
(2 Peter 3:13) But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.
(1 John 2:1) My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
(1 John 2:29) If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.
(1 John 3:7) Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.
(1 John 3:12) Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother's were righteous.
(Revelation 15:4) Who will not fear you, O Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed."
(Revelation 19:8) Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear." (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.)
