Prayer Scriptures in the New Testament
(Matthew 5:44) But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
(Matthew 6:5-7) "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. {6} But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. {7} And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
(Matthew 6:9-13) "This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, {10} your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. {11} Give us today our daily bread. {12} Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. {13} And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'
(Matthew 14:23) After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,
(Matthew 19:13) Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them.
(Matthew 21:13) "It is written," he said to them, "'My house will be called a house of prayer,' but you are making it a 'den of robbers.'"
(Matthew 21:22) If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."
(Matthew 24:20) Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath.
(Matthew
26:36-39) Then Jesus went with his
disciples to a place called
(Matthew 26:39) Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."
(Matthew 26:41-42) "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." {42} He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done."
(Matthew 26:44) So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
(Mark 1:35) Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
(Mark 6:46) After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.
(Mark 9:17-29) A man in the crowd answered, "Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. {18} Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not." {19} "O unbelieving generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me." {20} So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. {21} Jesus asked the boy's father, "How long has he been like this?" "From childhood," he answered.
{22} "It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us." {23} "'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for him who believes." {24} Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" {25} When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the evil spirit. "You deaf and mute spirit," he said, "I command you, come out of him and never enter him again."
{26} The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, "He's dead." {27} But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up. {28} After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn't we drive it out?" {29} He replied, "This kind can come out only by prayer."
(Mark 11:17) And as he taught them, he said, "Is it not written: "'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations' ? But you have made it 'a den of robbers.'"
(Mark 11:24-25) Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. {25} And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."
(Mark 12:40) They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely."
(Mark 13:18) Pray that this will not take place in winter,

14:32-38) They went to a place called

(Luke 2:37) and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.
(Luke 3:21) When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened
(Luke 5:16) But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
(Luke 5:33) They said to him, "John's disciples often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking."
(Luke 6:12) One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.
(Luke 6:28) bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
(Luke 9:18) Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, "Who do the crowds say I am?"
(Luke 9:28-29) About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. {29} As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.
(Luke 11:1-2) One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples." {2} He said to them, "When you pray, say: "'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.
(Luke 18:1) Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.
(Luke 18:10-11) "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. {11} The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men--robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector.
(Luke 19:46) "It is written," he said to them, "'My house will be a house of prayer' ; but you have made it 'a den of robbers.'"
(Luke 20:47) They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely."
(Luke 21:36) Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man."
(Luke 22:32) But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers."
(Luke 22:40-45) On reaching the place, he said to them, "Pray that you will not fall into temptation." {41} He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, {42} "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." {43} An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. {44} And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. {45} When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow.

"Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation."
(John 17) After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. {2} For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. {3} Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. {4} I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. {5} And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
{6} "I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. {7} Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. {8} For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. {9} I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. {10} All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. {11} I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name--the name you gave me--so that they may be one as we are one. {12} While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled. {13} "I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.
{14} I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. {15} My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. {16} They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. {17} Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. {18} As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. {19} For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified. {20} "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, {21} that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. {22} I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one:
{23} I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. {24} "Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. {25} "Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. {26} I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them."
(John
18:1) When he had finished praying,
Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the
(Acts 1:14) They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
(Acts 1:24) Then they prayed, "Lord, you know everyone's heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen
(Acts 2:42) They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
(Acts 3:1) One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer--at three in the afternoon.
(Acts 4:24) When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. "Sovereign Lord," they said, "you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.
(Acts 4:31) After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
(Acts 6:1-7) In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Grecian Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. {2} So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, "It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. {3} Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them

and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word." {5}
This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith
and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and
Nicolas from
(Acts 7:59) While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."
(Acts 8:15) When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit,
(Acts 8:22) Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart.
(Acts 8:24) Then Simon answered, "Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me."
(Acts
9:11) The Lord told him, "Go to the house of Judas on
(Acts 9:40) Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, "Tabitha, get up." She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up.
(Acts 10:2) He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly.
(Acts 10:4) Cornelius stared at him in fear. "What is it, Lord?" he asked. The angel answered, "Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.
(Acts 10:9) About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray.
(Acts 10:30-31) Cornelius answered: "Four days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me {31} and said, 'Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor.
(Acts
11:5) "I was in the city of
(Acts 12:5) So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.
(Acts 12:12) When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying.
(Acts 13:3) So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
(Acts 14:23) Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.
(Acts 16:13) On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there.
(Acts 16:16) Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.
(Acts 16:25) About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.
(Acts 20:36) When he had said this, he knelt down with all of them and prayed.
(Acts 21:5) But when our time was up, we left and continued on our way. All the disciples and their wives and children accompanied us out of the city, and there on the beach we knelt to pray.
(Acts
22:17) "When I returned to
(Acts 26:29) Paul replied, "Short time or long--I pray God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am, except for these chains."
(Acts 27:29) Fearing that we would be dashed against the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and prayed for daylight.
(Acts 28:8) His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and healed him.
(Romans 1:9-10) God, whom I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you {10} in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God's will the way may be opened for me to come to you.
(Romans 8:26) In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
(Romans 10:1) Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved.
(Romans 12:12) Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
(Romans
15:30-31) I urge you, brothers, by our
Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by
praying to God for me. {31} Pray that I may be rescued from the unbelievers in
Judea and that my service in
(1 Corinthians 7:5) Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
(1 Corinthians 11:4-5) Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. {5} And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head--it is just as though her head were shaved.
(1 Corinthians 11:13) Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?
(1 Corinthians 14:13-15) For this reason anyone who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret what he says. {14} For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. {15} So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.
(2 Corinthians 1:9-11) Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. {10} He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, {11} as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.
(2 Corinthians 9:14) And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you.
(2 Corinthians 13:7) Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong. Not that people will see that we have stood the test but that you will do what is right even though we may seem to have failed.
(2 Corinthians 13:9) We are glad whenever we are weak but you are strong; and our prayer is for your perfection.
(Ephesians 1:16-18) I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. {17} I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. {18} I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
(Ephesians 3:14-21) For this reason I kneel before the Father, {15} from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. {16} I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, {17} so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,
{18} may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, {19} and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. {20} Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, {21} to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
(Ephesians 6:18-20) And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. {19} Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, {20} for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
(Philippians 1:4) In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy
(Philippians 1:9-11) And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, {10} so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, {11} filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ--to the glory and praise of God.
(Philippians 1:18-19) But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, {19} for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.
(Philippians 4:6) Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
(Colossians 1:3) We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,
(Colossians 1:9-14) For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. {10} And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,
{11} being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully {12} giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. {13} For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, {14} in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
(Colossians 4:2-4) Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. {3} And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. {4} Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.
(Colossians 4:12) Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.
(1 Thessalonians 1:2) We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers.
(1 Thessalonians 3:10) Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you again and supply what is lacking in your faith.
(2 Thessalonians 1:11-12) With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. {12} We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
(2 Thessalonians 3:1-2) Finally, brothers, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. {2} And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men, for not everyone has faith.
(1 Timothy 2:1) I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--
(1 Timothy 2:8) I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
(1 Timothy 4:4-5) For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, {5} because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
(1 Timothy 5:5) The widow who is really in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask God for help.
(2 Timothy 1:3) I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers.
(Philemon 1:4) I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers,
(Philemon 1:6) I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.
(Philemon 1:22) And one thing more: Prepare a guest room for me, because I hope to be restored to you in answer to your prayers.
(Hebrews 5:7) During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.
(Hebrews 13:18-19) Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way. {19} I particularly urge you to pray so that I may be restored to you soon.
(James 5:13-18) Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. {14} Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. {15} And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
{16} Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. {17} Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. {18} Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.
(1 Peter 3:7) Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
(1 Peter 3:12) For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."
(1 Peter 4:7) The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.
(1 John 5:16) If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that.
(3 John 1:2) Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.
(Jude 1:20) But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.
(Revelation 5:8) And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
(Revelation 8:3-4) Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne. {4} The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of the saints, went up before God from the angel's hand.
